Axial Forming - Also for Thin-Walled Workpieces
In an axial forming machine, a shape-defining tool (die or mandrel) is moved axially over or into a securely clamped workpiece, which may additionally be reinforced in part. In this process, the tool geometry is transferred to the workpiece. This enables, for example, external and internal contours as well as internal and external splines to be formed without machining. With hydraulically applied pressing forces from 10 to 500 kN, workpieces with diameters of up to 70 mm and lengths of up to 1,000 mm can be processed axially. The maximum tool stroke is 260 mm .
Using the special frequency modulation function, the required forming forces can be reduced by means of a repeatedly pulsed forward movement with short relief strokes. This allows even very thin-walled components to be processed reliably under increasing forming loads without the risk of bulging or buckling.
